After a frustrating weekend last week I finally thought I was getting somewhere, as I have everything connected in the case (I think) the fans are running the LEDs are working but when I plugged it into my tv with hdmi to boot it for the first time all I get is a blank screen saying no signal.

Here is the parts I am using plus there is also a 500gb hdd from a laptop with windows 7 installed added to the list

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($164.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($63.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Sandisk Solid State Drive 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($60.97 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($129.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 110 Mini ITX Tower Case ($38.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Amazon)

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Solution
i don't see why something like this should happen, unless you are connecting to the motherboard instead of the GPU, or that the GPU is dead on arrival.
In order to get a video image on the TV.
You must first connect the video lead from it, Dvi,Hdmi to the back video ports provided on the MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard.

You should get a display image.
Next enter the bios of the motherboard using the stated key for setup ect.
Once in there you need to look for a main menu, or sub menu that relates to video output devices or interfaces.
Change the setting to PCI-E, then save the new settings before exiting the bios.
Power the new build off completely.
Then swap the cable from the back of the MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard.
To the GTX 750 Ti card you placed in the PCI-E slot of the Mobo.
Power the system on, and an image/ screen will be displayed Via the 750Ti video output ports.

Enjoy your new build.

By default on most boards the factory bios settings are always set to use the onboard video solution of the mobo.
And why if you follow the steps above if you instead firstly connected the video lead from the TV to the GTX 750 Ti card you placed in the PCI-E slot.

As long as when the system first powers on, and it has a speaker fitted to the board and a single short tone beep is heard. If you have more than one beep then consult the manual that came with the Mobo and it will tell you what the set of beep codes mean in relation to any hardware you have connected to the MSI H81I Mini ITX LGA1150.
