is using an amd r9 290 a bad idea to use with a microAXT gigabyte Z97n -wifi

the motherboard has nothing to do with the GPU you put in it, unless it doesn't have enough enough PCIe 16x slots. since this is a single GPU, and this is a z97 board, so im guessing you are getting the 4690k, the r9 290 should be just fine.

all you need is an enough power from the power supply and the motherboard is compatible with this card, it has a PCIe 3.0 expansion slot

You need at least a 620w psu. If you want to do crossfire, then you need a 850w psu. I recommend the Seasonic 620 (620w).
