My graphics card doesn't seem to work

I have built my own computer using an ASRock H87 Pro4 motherboard and an Intel Core i5-4590, with 4gb RAM. When I first built the computer it worked perfectly but now I have bought a EVGA GeForce GTX 750 ti gpu and installed it into the motherboard. I had a little trouble getting it in but it does seem to fit. When I turned the computer on, it made a lot more noise than it did before and turned on. I tried to install the gpu drivers but it couldn't detect a gpu. I then plugged my HDMI cable from the monitor directly into the gpu, but it didn't show up on the monitor at all. Do I need 2 HDMI cables or have I done something wrong? Also, I couldn't find a slot for my 6 pin PCI express cable on the gpu.

Solution
Check in the BIOS and make sure that the on-board graphics is disabled. Shutdown the computer. Connect the monitor to the GTX 750. Turn ON the computer.

You should only need 1 connection from the GPU to the monitor and if there is no 6-pin connection on the card you may not need it since only the factory O/Ced cards require it. Since you have some trouble trying to get it to fit I would double check that connection on the board and make sure its properly seated. The motherboard should pick up the card but if its not then shut down the system, remove the card, go into BIOS and disable onboard video, shutdown the system, reinstall the card using the HDMI to the monitor, then turn the system back on and see if that helps and as long as the display works then upgrade the video card drivers.
