I would like to upgrade the CPU and RAM in my Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5219, but I'm not sure what parts I'd need or what is supported, help?

I am currently at 4 GiB of memory and an AMD processor, when I have VoVoid VSXu open it gets my CPU usage to over 70%, and I'd like to fix that issue.. along with upgrading the memory.

What brands are supported for upgrading Toshiba notebook memory, etc.? Open to any suggestions, cost is an irrelevant issue as of right now.

OS: Fedora 20

Thanks!

As this is a laptop, there is a 99% chance you won't be able to upgrade the CPU, in terms of ram, see here : http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Toshiba/satellite-c55d-b5219.

You can upgrade to a maximum of 16GB, in the two slots of the laptop.

You should be fine with any 1.35V DDR3 DIMM's, just make sure that they are the Half Size SODIMM's.

I'm sorry but I stumbled onto this thread and could not let this incorrect answer live here on the internet forever uncorrected. The RAM part of the answer is spot-on. But, simply having a laptop doesn't give it a 99% chance of not being able to upgrade the CPU. Several users have successfully upgraded the A4 in their laptop. I have a C55 series toshiba just like the OP and I haven't upgraded my CPU but I don't remember it being soldered to the motherboard. A CPU with the correct rating should work in this laptop. Support after the upgrade will be limited since Toshiba like other computer makers groups components into specific system models. Once you change out the components on an off-the-shelf system your laptop model number is practically irrelevant.

Also, I think most C55's came with 7200 RPM drives and you can get a huge performance improvement in these models by moving to SSD.
