hello there, im not such a good computer wizz when it comes to buliding a good pc,
My current pc-
OS- windows 8 64 bit
Processor- Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Manufacturer- Intel
Speed - 3.4 GHz
Number of Cores- 4

Video Card- AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
Manufacturer - ATI
Chipset- AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
Dedicated Memory- 1.0 GB
Total Memory - 3.7 GB
Memory -6.2 GB

Motherboard - Unknown

i was looking to upgrade my cpu but was unsure if i could just buy an amd cpu and just switch it like that, or will i need to completely change my mobo and cpu like that.
As you can see its not very quick and bit sluggish in games at times. But i was looking to upgrade my pc but like i said i need help on how to, i do want to limit on how much to spend on upgrading or is it worth bulding a new one? ATM it can run some games in ultra including H1z1, dota 2, minecraft, space engineers, Chivilary, ect, it can run dayz in high at a limit of 25-30fps, and can just run arma 3 in high with 25-30fps aswell but with alot of people in one city it does tend to bug out.

So any preferable upgrades for this pc or a new build will be very helpful! recommendations to run games in ultra smoothly is the main purpose but budget is around £500-650 at a push £700!

Cheers

You can't switch from Intel to AMD with out a motherboard change (and reloading Windows), Without knowing your mobo, I can't make a CPU recommendation, as that depends on the mobo.
go to www.pirform.com/speccy
& download speccy, it will tell you what your mobo is.

No you cannot your certain MOBO has a specific socket in it like for example my FX 8320e needs an AM3+ socket on my MOBO. If you want to get an AMD u will need to get a new one. All you can do is get a processor with an LGA1155 socket, thats if you dont replace ur mobo. But like i said if u do want an AMD FX you would need to get a mobo with AM3+ socket.

Very nice pc u got there but as i said u cannot change from Intel to amd. You need to get a new mobo. If you want a new one cheap http://www.microcenter.com/product/421052/GA-970A-UD3P_Socket_AM3_AMD_ATX_Motherboard
is what i recommend.

Ok thankyou very helpful, but if i decided to stay with intel, can i literally just swap it out and put in or will that require a new mobo aswell? + what else could i do to make it better?

cheers

If you want to upgradehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-i5-3330-Ivybridge-Processor-Socket/dp/B008PDA9LE/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1422123918&sr=1-2&keywords=lga+1155 looks expensive but hey its an upgrade! If u stick with the LGA 1155 socket type you do not need to replace ur mobo.

If ur interested in a new GC
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAPPHIRE-AMD-Graphics-Card-DDR5/dp/B00IRTXPBM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1422123993&sr=8-5&keywords=amd+graphics+card

is a good option!

It seems u can only fit with 3k. But you can change graphics cards u don't have to have a certain anything for graphics. So you can just put any GTX or so in there. Im not knowing at all of PSU i just stuck in a 750 watt and hope for the best. BUT MAKE SURE UR ONLY BUYING A PROCESSOR WITH A LGA1155 SOCKET ONLY.

I would go with new build, a nice gaming rig can be built around that budget esp if you consider some used items, my own Hd7770 is struggling with 1080p so if you decide to go upgrade try gpu first, then i5 3*** and maybe another 2gb of ram. Also no one has yet mentioned you'll want a decent psu with your new parts this is *really* important with a mid-high end gpu.

being you have an HP system, you can not just get an Intek with a 1155 socket, HP (as do most OEM's) limit their up grades, If you give your HP model # (or go to their site, they will generally list what CPU the board can upgrade to.

HP usually does this thru the bios, If a bios upgrade can be found *MAYBE any 1155 socket processor can be used,.
