I am planning on reworking the network in my home office. As it sits I need 6 lan connections (4 for computers in the office, 1 free spare for new builds/repairs, and 1 that goes to the HTPC on the other side of the wall) as well as WiFi. My issue is pretty simple I think but heres my plan Cable to modem, Lan from modem to 8 port switch, lan from switch to WiFi router and all computers. But my questions are #1, WiFi before 8 port switch or after, and #2, managed or unmanaged switch and why? Thank guys.

Solution
I would put router as close to modem .as poss... tht going to switch.. and on to PC's
unmanaged switch should be fine.. you not got anything to complicated..so no need for managed..
Unless you have serious switching needs that an unmanaged switch cant handle.
