Hi,
I'm building a pc for work (Visual Studio, SQL Server, lots of open apps) and gaming. I want it to be as future proof as possible (my current pc is 10 years old :D).
I picked Intel Core i7-4790K as my CPU, mostly because it's got the best performance per core. Is it a good idea to go for LGA1150 now? I mean the processor is perfect for me, but it looks like it's one of the best processors for that socket, so if I'm ever going to upgrade, I will have to upgrade the motherboard (and possibly memory) as well. I was thinking about something for LGA2011, but according to Wikipedia, successor to LGA1150 is going to be LGA1151 and LGA2011 is more for server and high-end use. It really confuses me, and the fact that there are 3 versions of LGA2011 doesn't help. Any suggestions will be appreciated :)

Yeah if you're going to doing actual work or video editing, rendering, photoshop, 3d modeling then you should go with LGA 2011v3.

If you're just building a gaming PC for steam and everything else go with LGA 1150.
