Alright so boxing day came around here in Canada and i was looking for some ram to upgrade my system. So not really knowing a whole lot about it but figuring that as long as i was the same type i went for a good sale on Newegg for:
Team Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model TED38192M1333HC9DC
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313086
Unfortunately, although i should have known better i didnt bother to read the reviews of the product before purchasing.... Seems if i did i would have already known people had had issues with it in the past.

After installing the RAM to my system i started experiencing regular BSOD's. Memory Management. Started googling my problem (Google is my friend) and found the Memtest86+ program and ran that on each stick of ram individually finding that one of the two pack of new ram was defective. Removing that stick stopped the BSOD's, however now my computer runs like its completely bogged down. Adding more ram actually made it SLOWER.

I have googled my heart out looking for a solution to this. Removing the single 4g stick and going back to the default 8 gigs makes my system run smoothly once more but i just cant figure out why even just using one single stick of the 4g Team Elite ram is making my system suffer like this.

I have researched how much ram my motherboard/OS can handle and i should be able to run up to 16gigs no problem.

Unfortunately, i was silly and thought when i received the package from newegg that i was in no hurry to install it. I let it sit around for a week. So two weeks for shipping, sat around for a week and spent a week googling trying to figure out why i was getting BSOD's and its well past the newegg 30day return policy. So i fear that i am stuck with one defective stick and one that SHOULD work. I would like to at least be able to get the one working if i can.

I have checked everything. Timing is the same as my old ram and according to CUPID it is running at the proper timing. It is the same 1.5v power requirement and if i put any of the old ram into other slots it works fine. If i put one old ram and one team elite in and leave the third out, it works fine. I have put them in every possible positioning and order and as soon as a third stick is added it slows down tremendously. I looked into the BIOS settings to see if i could enable Rank Interleave thinking maybe it was the duel channel thing messing with my performance... but i am unable to find that option in my BIOS settings at all.

Im stumped and well... kinda desperate lol. If anyone might have some ideas on what settings i can tweak to make my system run smoothly with all 3 4g sticks (2 stock +1 team elite) i would be very grateful! Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

Do you happen to have a trusted place i can find a BIOS update? I have googled for a BIOS update for my system but i couldnt find anything on any official sites and im wary of downloads from untrusted sites that could potentially screw my system completely :p

Apologies for if i seem a bit newb about this. As i actually am lol. I know i am not running Linux and as far as i can tell from googling it does seem my system does have an Ivy Bridge (whatever that is) and 2 of the 12 total usb ports are 3.0.

Would that mean i should probably go for the P03.A3 version?

These are the options i have when filling in the proper information on the Acer Site for my system.

BIOS Acer BIOS for Linux (for device with Ivy Bridge & USB 3.0 supported) P03.A3L 1.8 MB 2012/05/14 Download

BIOS Acer BIOS (for device with Ivy Bridge & USB 3.0 supported) P03.A3 2.5 MB 2012/05/14 Download

BIOS Acer BIOS for Linux (for device with USB 3.0 supported) P03.A2L 1.8 MB 2012/04/23 Download

BIOS Acer BIOS (for device with USB 3.0 supported) P02.A2 2.8 MB 2011/11/14 Download

BIOS Acer BIOS (for device without USB 3.0 supported) P01.B1 2.7 MB 2011/08/15 Download

I may be new to computer work but one thing i have gathered is that the BIOS is one thing you really dont want to mess with if you dont know what you are doing. I dont want to do any irreversible damage.

I really appreciate your help! ^_^

Never having previously updated a BIOS and being a little more than a little nervous about doing something that has the potential to permanently damage my system, im a little hesitant to jump right into that. Is this really my only option?

Information i have found on updating BIOS says the safest way to go about doing it is via a bootable floppy? Unfortunately my system does not have a floppy drive so thats kinda out of the question. Also from what im reading (and im not sure how accurate my sources are but i do tend to try to do a decent amount of research on google before trying things) it can be done from within windows itself, but this method is much riskier?

Am i worried about nothing and updating a BIOS is not as scary as it sounds? Or should i be considering giving up on the whole thing and just stick with my stock 8 gigs as i have run pretty much fine on that since i got the computer back in 2011 and just look into saving up to purchase a new rig/build my own in the near future?

I know obviously its my choice to make. But if you were in my position would you (not really knowing much about computers in the first place) risk permanently damaging the only computer you have to add 4 extra gigs of ram?

Maybe if i build my own in the future i will have a use for this poor little Team Elite 4 gig stick that has been causing me all this trouble lol.
