Last night before I went to bed, I put my computer in sleep mode. When I woke up this morning my computer was off, and wouldnt turn back on. I unplugged the power supply then plugged it back in and turned it on and it turned on. It said the BIOS was corrupted, then repaired itself, and booted up and is working fine so far. I read that I should update my BIOS? Is it needed if it appears to be working fine now? I havent updated it yet because everything appears to be working fine after it repaired itself...I checked my version of the BIOS and there is a newer version available, but I also read that you shouldnt update it unless theres a problem.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 Ultra Durable 4.

A UPS is an Uninterrupable Power Supply, basically a battery you hook your computer up to, that automatically takes over if the power fails (if you don't have one, add it to the list of things to buy :) )
And bios updates are fairly straightforward you have multiple options in fact. You download the package, unpack it (yours is a self extracting file). then you either have the option to run the autoexec file from windows, but I'd recommend using the Q-Flash utility if your motherboard supports it (I think it does). That basically involves the following: 1. You copy the bios file on a memory stick 2. reboot then either directly enter Q-Flash with the hotkey or go to your BIOS then switch over to Q-Flash (you will have on-screen info...

Yes, they say that since they're afraid of people complaining to them that something went wrong during the update :)
Other than that, new bios versions come out for a reason, usually they improve something, even if that thing used to work properly before, who says it can't do better?.
So yea if you know how to do it, have a UPS and you're not afraid of power-outages (one of the few things that can really hurt during a bios update) then you SHOULD do it, it takes only a few moments and can improve a lot of things.

EDIT: Also note that you have dual bios so even if the whole world was against you and something went wrong :) You'd still have a plan B.
