Well i am looking for an upgrade from my gtx 760....was considering 970..but now its out of question due to the memory bug issues...have not used amd before...but planning to buy r9 290x...need the opinions of amd users on driver support and everything..also i will notice a massive fps boost compared to 760 i hope?

thank you for your response...but have you visited the geforce forums....almost everyone is returning the 970s..actually saying its a bug is an understatement...its defective..so i am really confused...because both cost a lot in my country and i do not want to end up wasting my money...290x runs super hot with bad and driver issues...and 970 cannot use more than 3.5 gbs of its memory and has coil whining issues..both cost the same here and both perform similarly...so price/perf ratio is not a factor in this case....seriously in a big dilemma

the whining coil issue I believe was resolve already. not sure. and the bug I believe will be fix with a software update. you can just wait and see what happens. I will still go for the GTX 970 runs cooler and consumes less power than the R9

I agree it is a tough spot. You might want to ride out your 760 until issues are resolved, and more production batches are rolled out.
The 290x would be the "safer" approach, as they have simply been around longer. I personally would take my chances with a 970.

alright then...the situation is kind of funny...960 too weak...970 is defective....980 out of my budget...780 out of stock...290x runs hot ..LOL...had almost made up my mind to buy the 970..even paid in advance for the gigabyte g1 gaming edition one...and now this..i would have overlooked this issue...but the sheer rage of the 970 owners in the geforce forums.. the way they are cursing nvidia and the number of 970 owners who have returned their gpus....all this is too much to ignore...anyways thanks for the response guys....still would like some opinions on 290x...

well as you stated, you don't like the GTX 970 for some bug, still performs very similar to the GTX 970 with bug and all that. anyways, get the R9 290X and expect some heat, it gets hot but is a very solid GPU too. and that's all

390x isnt coming mate...amd's next flagship gpu will be 380x..and its going to cost a fortune....they will squeeze out as much money as they can bfore nvidia release their own gpus with hbm

yes...but the 380x is going to be something man....that HBM...dunno why they do not declare an official release date....then it becomes so easy to wait...but even then it is going to be well beyond my budget....

Only Reference R9 290/x were hot. All custom, reach 75-82C max. AMD drivers are currently better than Nvidia. Cripled memory in GTX 970 at the moment is a small problem, but soon come Witcher 3, GTA V, and many other demanding AAA titles. If you intend to use the card for at least two years, then avoid the GTX 970, take R9 290/x or GTX 980.

Apparently when Nvidia was cutting down the 980 to create the 970, they crippled the last 512MB of memory on the card, it's on the card, but it can't be accessed nearly as fast as the rest of the memory, meaning if you don't want your performance to tank you need to keep your VRAM usage below 3.5GB.

Only if bit coins become a fad again where AMD supply couldn't match the demand. Otherwise, Nvidia's does the same with the pricing of their cards. $3000 Titan-Z anyone?

no one even with a baboon's brain will buy TITAN Z..however whats annoying is that AMD just will not announce the official relase date of 380x....waiting would have been so much easier then....an approximation of the actual price and an official release date would have made life so much easier...
