I am having a single r9 270x dual x version and I was thinking about adding another one as new games like unity and far cry 4 have become pretty demanding. My current rig includes a i5 4430 ,a B85 FATALITY motherboard , Western digital Blue 500gb hard drive and 4gb ram and a 550 watts corsair power supply. Now my question was, can my current power supply manage with another card ? Are there better single card options ? Can any other card makers card like asus or zotac can be used for crossfire with my current gpu ?

Solution
The recommendation is for a quality PSU with a minimum rating of around 600 W, for two R9-270x video cards in Crossfire configuration.

The VS 550 PSU is not recommended to be used in this case because it is a lower grade PSU (and may not handle the required load) and should be upgraded to something like -

EVGA SuperNova 750 B2

SeaSonic M12II 620

XFX Pro 750

SeaSonic S12II 620

Antec HCG-620M

It is possible to mix different R9-270X card manufacturers with the exception of EVGA. Apparently EVGA cards only work with their own cards and with no other brands.

The minimum requirement for the 270x is 500w, so going 650w power supply will allow you to add another card and some head room for other components, and corsair, seasonic, silverstone are good brands

I would not risk it, As i said your gpu requires a minimum 500W Power supply. I would recommend minimum 600W for crossfire.

Its not the fact that it might work, But it will stress your psu
