Hello guyz,
i m very new here and its my first thread, and my reason to start this thread is to get advice from u guyz to suggest me a suitable gpu.
Well 1st of all my psu is silverstone strider 500w which has 2 6-pin pcie connectors, other specs are as follows
pro: core i5 3570
mobo: asus p8h61
ram: Kingston 8gb

I don't want to upgrade my psu coz m on budget, and i want to put most of my money on gpu. so suggest me good and suitable gpu which should serve me for coming 1 to 2 year titles.
I will play at 1440x900, and want to play at ultra with everything maxed out.
Currently i have HD 7790 which serve me very well, but when I try to play FC3 or even Metro 2033, the fps don't go over 25 and game seems very slow to me (every thing at ultra @ 1440x900) then i decided to upgrade my card and come here to get some suggestion from you.
Thanks

Solution
the 960 is a better card than the 270x by a good bit and worth it if it is in your budget. the lower power usage is also a big bonus for considering your psu. benchmarks have shown the 960 to be roughly the same as an r9-280 which of course is better than the 270x. i think the 960 would be a solid choice for you.

depending on budget, you can run a 970 on that psu if you can afford it.

we need to know your budget to offer you choices. 500w will limit your options but there are still good ones you can do if the 970 is out of your range. also if you are not in the US, a store you can buy from would be helpful so we can not bother offering card's you can't get or cost too much there....

A GTX 960 will let you play games like metro and farcry 3 with some decent fps at that resolution. :)

i have a 550w psu 8gb of ram fx6100 cpu and gtx 750 Ti gpu and I have played both of those titles you mentioned at ultimate settings with no problem on the 750 ti so if you are looking for a budget card with a 500w psu the 750 ti is the card for you it has a very low power consumption and runs pretty cool and plays games very well if you ask me

i am not familiar with any pakistan shops. can you give me a store to look at so i can see what is available to you at what price. does not good to say get a card you can't get or is way more expensive than you can afford.

the 960 is very new and might not even be available there yet or costs a lot. i just don't know what is best at your budget and psu.

If you want to be safe for max setting with upcoming games within the next year or 2 your best bet is the gtx 970 but with that you will need to upgrade your PSU to at least a 650w 750w just to be safe but with a budget that is a little hard to accomplish
What is your budget because with an upgrade to the PSU and a gtx 970 it will cost you about 425-475$ US Currency to get the 2

come on now, a 970 would run fine on 500w even with an oc'ed system. let's keep it real please and not sidetrack the thread with some crazy psu talk. :D

give me a few minutes to scan those stores and i'll come back with some options for you.

Keep in mind most PSUs run at 80% efficiency and also degrade over time so I try to keep it safe and go 100-200W more of a power supply. If what is required to run your system is more than what your PSU can dish out you can very well damage parts in your system I know this because I have done this before with a power supply I thought was enough for the requirements but was not do to age and efficiency

these are the 2 best cards i see in that budget and will run on your psu. the 270x is a solid card and will offer good performance at your resolution for a few years easy.

thanks for being patient :)

edit: and please let's not make the op's first experience here a thread sidetracked and full of arguments of psu's. he has what he has and i am offering help based on that info. if you want to debate psu's start a new thread :)

thank you so much sir for bringing me here, i am thinking to select amd one, but most of the people here are suggesting nvidia cards, are they any good than amdz..?
and one question, what you think how much time will 270x serve me at max/ultra..?

amd is good for higher resolution gaming and nvidia is for lower resolution gaming if you have a monitor that is 1920x1080 or lower nvidia would be for you but if you have a resolution higher than that then amd is the card to go for

The 270x isn't a ultra card any more with new titles ,high settings yes no problem
If you can try & grab a 280 if at all possible - its the difference between high & ultra IMO nowadays.
There are some under budget but manufacturer refurbs - if they still come with a decent warranty they are worth a look IMO.
I bought a batch of ex-bitcoin mining cards cheap & they've all been solid as a rock even though they were run for 12-15 hours daily.

i have to agree with matt. the the 280 would be a better card but it is also out of your budget range. if you wish to save a bit more and then buy a better card, we can always help you decide then :)

the 270x is a solid mid range gpu so it will do mid range performance. if you want high end performance, then you will of course have to go a bit more high end. the 280 is pretty much the base of the high end with the 970 being the best for the money (at least in the US it is) but a lot more than the 270x.

as for nvidia over amd it is a matter of opinion. some games work better with amd others with nvidia. anyone saying "amd is the best NEVER go for nvidia" or the other way around is just not worth listening to. this person is completly biased and not looking at the facts. for the money right now, the amd gpu's are the best bang for the buck until you get to the 970/980 gpu's

in 6 months it could reverse and nvidia could get the nod over amd. it mostly depends on price. if 2 cards perform the same, the better buy is the cheaper one which amd is right now.

refurbs and even open boxes can be a great way to get a lot more for less money if you can find them in pakistan. refurbs are factory certified and come with a warranty and open boxes can be missing things like the driver cd/manual (which can just be downloaded instead) or cables/adapters if it came with any. it can be everything in the box or just the card itself, you just never know. i have bought open boxes before and not had any issues but always read the return policy on such things. you still want to be able to return a dead part if you get one.
