how do i fix ma computer if it says select 'r'at the first screen to start repair

Use/get and XP disk and select R to start the repair setup to copy the file it needs. Usually this issue is due to something else, bad hard drive, a virus, corrupt file system. Do a drive check first with a boot disk like Hiren's, the seatools utility should scan most brands of hard drive before you try to run the repair.
