could installing a new card kill my PCIe3.0 slot?

Basically, I thought my new R9 270 card was to blame when I installed it but I just tried to put the old card back in (HD7750) and NOW the motherboard won't acknowledge it's presence either. The fans come on in that slot, but the UEFI says that nothing is installed there.

Solution
Probably a stupid response... but... did you remember to plug in the additional power plugs at the rear of the card? Are you sure you plugged your monitor into the actual card and not the onboard graphics?

yes. yes. and yes. I am simply stuck using the single video card in the secondary PCIe slot with no hope of ever using Crossfire with this particular board even after ASRock replaced it for me. Although they were very nice about the return process, I think I will stay clear of the ASRock boards from here on out.
