Upgrade Core 2 Quad (Q9550) to AMD 860K?

Hey all,

I currently have a Q9550@3.7 GHz and an AMD Radeon 7970 which I use for both gaming and work.

It's been a while since I upgraded, and the system is starting to fall behind in the newest games. Would the 860K give me a significant FPS boost? I'm looking to get the best bang for the buck.

Considering it's not that much higher than the Q9550 (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html) the 860K wouldn't give you a huge boost.

Not to mention you'd also have to buy a whole new motherboard and wipe your system to start fresh. And if you're going to change motherboards you might as well upgrade to something more modern, like a Core i5/i7.
