Can anyone recommend a more modern gaming motherboard that is compatible with the i5 2500k, i don't want to get rid of the processor as it's still an excellent performing chip especially for gaming! I currently have a P67A-UD3 motherboard. Please don't post a list of compatible motherboards from pcpartpicker as i only want you to recommend a motherboard that you have owned and recommend!!! Thanks

My current one is only pci-e 2.0 x16 compatible so i want one which is 3.0. Also two years ago one of the Sata ports on the motherboard died so i figured is there any point keeping an out of date mobo which has a broken port.

pcie 2.0 x16 is plenty of bandwidth for any card. Why buy a bus with 100 seats when you're only carrying 30 people?

The z77 extreme 4 is a good board but I don't think you need to upgrade really.

Look man let me fill you in... I have a 2500K also, awsome chip! Likes to be pushed! But the problem is even if you get the best Z77 mb in the world you will never be able to run you PIC-E 3.0 lines at 3 because it`s halfway dependent on the cpu, we have sandy bridge and they don`t support PCI-E 3.0, that only started with Ivy-bridge...

So if you have a Sandy it automatically pushes the mb`s PCI-E 3 down to 2.0... but the diff is like 5-maybe 10%

I have been running my Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3(Micro-ATX)... for a while now and it still rocks... it`s going to sli 2xGTX960 ti`s when they come out... But try to get a G1 Sniper 3(Not the M3)... Great board!

Thanks for your comments, so basically 3.0 is pointless because my CPU isn't compatible... Sadly the mobo you suggested isn't available in the Uk any more

Yes...pretty pointless but that does not make the cpu bad or the upgrade... that is a great gaming CPU!

-Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H
-Gigabyte Z77X-UP7(insane!!!!)
-Asus Maximus V Formula
-Asus Maximus V Extreme

These are really out there boards and I think if you can get any of them just give them the money!!

Sata port

With no option for PCIe 3.0 the only reason OP would have to upgrade is that one broken sata port they mentioned...

No dude that`s not the consensus... Just go with a better board for future sli and or CF capability...

Be a man!!!! Do the right thing!!!!

Oh no a disagreement! It's time for fisticuffs! lol

nowt worse than a dead port.. you dont need to upgrade motherboard, why not just get a replacement,, the same one.. if your system is working well then just get another board..

p.s i5-2500k is brilliant.. intels finest piece of work in my opinion. im running mine at stock and its blisteringly quick.
