I'm planing on getting the ram for my pc build and I don't if your memory has to be compatible with the motherboard like your cpu does. My motherboard is the MSI Z97-G45 gaming.

Yes The 1600mhz version I linked is plenty fast you can save money instead of going the 1866 route. Again either will work just not really any performance difference between 1600 and 1866

99% of the time any DDR3 memory will work with any motherboard.
There are some rare occasions where there have been compatibility issues.

List the memory and the motherboard you intend to buy/own and i'm sure someone can tell you if they are compatible or not.

The motherboard I have seems to have more uncommon ram I've been learning.

In this case you should be fine with most any DDR3 - however would look for 1600 or better (Haswell and Refresh are native to 1600, if planning on 2133 or higher will prob want a K model CPU, as non-Ks seldom can carry 2133 and up.

And as a side note in reference to ShadyHamster's reply - completely untrue. Most of today's lines of DRAM utilize 4Gb memory chips which aren't compatible with older mobos, then tere is the Fury line of DRAM which operates off PnP opposed to the 'norm' of XMP, and also while high freq DRAM may 'run' on most mobos, to run it at it's spec freq you need a CPU that can carry carry it - sorry just hate these generalizations like was stated about 99% of DDR3 will work with any mobo - which is far from the truth, and the bad part is so many say it when they don't know what they are talking about, it's one of the main reasons we have so many people coming here looking for help

As mentioned above the Fury's operate off PnP and they would be compatible with your rig, under PnP they set themselves up automatically, no need to enable XMP or anything, if the BIOS is ready for them. With MSI might make sure you have the latest if you go with the Furys, MSI is a little slow on their DRAM BIOS updates ;)

So do you think I would be good with this type of memory in this link? I have an I5-4690k processor.

I was already going to originally get the HyperX furys, so just to be clear. The hyperX furys would work for my motherboard?

Yep ran at 1600 out of the box with my board, hate when the boards default to lower frequencies.
