I am stuck on choosing which OS I should use for my gaming PC, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, or Windows 8.1 64 bit. I have a Windows 8 laptop and to be honest, I hate it. There are too many updates, it takes forever to load sometimes, and there are so many useless features that I don't even use. I also have a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate and I really love it. I feel that it loads faster than Windows 8, it looks nicer, there aren't as many updates, and it is organized and simple without any of those dumb extra features that you pay extra for that you will never really use. I was thinking of just getting Win 7, but does Win 8 get more FPS and better graphics? If the FPS and graphics aren't a noticeable difference, then I will just stick with 7. I read this article already: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windows-8-gaming-performance,3331-4.html and I didn't really think it was too much of a difference, but what do you guys think, get Windows 7, or Windows 8 and deal with all of the updates and extra features? Thanks guys!

In a slight majority of titles, windows 8.1 gets better fps, but it is not by a significant amount (usually about 5 to 8 fps). I personally love windows 8. But if you dislike it so much, I would definitely go with windows 7 then. Otherwise, I imagine you will just say to yourself every time you are on your gaming rig that you wish you would have just gotten windows 7.

It just ends up being a preference...and yours seems to be towards windows 7. So I would go with that then.

Just tested this yesterday Win 7 x64 vs Win 8.1
What i;ve found:
Far Cry 3 has slightly lower FPS in 8.1 but reduced stuttering
Mechwarrior Online has better FPS and no stuttering in 8.1
Dragon Age : Inq has a lower FPS and increased freezing in 8.1

I hate 8.1 because of the retarded metro interface and whoever argued to add that in should be jailed. Its like running 2 interfaces at the same time using up resources for no reason. You start the desktop from metro when in fact the metro is run on top of the desktop interface?!?!!? When you open settings and windows native functions from the metro, instead of staying in the metro interface it opens up the desktop... When opening certain things from the desktop it goes to metro. It makes no sense - its like using Android and Ubuntu at the same time and for no reason one is pointing to the other. Whoever designed this had some serious mental problems...

Yea it's a pain to use and get around, and I hate how when you restart your computer for windows 8 it is super slow for a good 10 minutes, I never had that issue with my windows 7 laptop.
