Hello :D

I'm new to building pcs, so this is about the best gaming build I can come up with after doing tons of research and asking around (this site has been super helpful so far).

Originally I didn't plan to SLI, but I've modified my build to (I think) be able to take another GTX 980 at some point in the future. Just in case. But I know I don't want to ever overclock. I'm still too computer illiterate for that - I'd end up melting something for sure.

The build I'm considering:
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/qZdVHx

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston Fury Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)
Total: $1947.56

Are these parts compatible?

I don't know what dimensions I need to mentally puzzle-piece together - will these components physically fit together space-wise and plug/connector-wise? Are there any concerns like parts touching/weighing too heavily on the motherboard?

Is the power supply sufficient, even for when/if I do SLI.?

Do I need additional cooling? I think the liquid cooler is just for the cpu, so do I need something else for my graphics card? Is there anything else I'll need additional cooling for if the liquid cooler is insufficient?

Any important do's/don'ts of assembly are greatly appreciated as well.

Feel free to change a component (some categories I have a tie, like g.skill/kingston/patriot/corsair for memory, but I chose the list above out of the cheapest of my ties on the partpicker site), but I'd love to know why you think it's a better option.

tl;dr: can I go ahead and buy above to get a functional, awesome gaming computer? (no boom)

Sorry I don't have all the links for each individual part... I'm not sure how to do that, or in what format...
Thank you gurus so much for taking the time to help a beginner out. :D

Let me know if you need any more info.

This would work just as well for much less. i7 vs i5 doesn't really affect gaming. I recommend the gtx 980 from msi. A suitable psu can be found cheaper. Noctua nhd14 is only 5 degrees worse than the 100i and is about twice as quiet. Suitable mobo can be found cheaper too.

@Demosthenest: Ty for the fast reply! If I kept the i7 and my storage, would they and the rest of your list be compatible? A lot of your alternatives were on my tied list.

I would like to change the memory to Gskill Ripjaws or Corsair Vengeance pro. It will be better for you and get two sticks of 4 GB because it will enable the dual channel memory mode that doubles the original memory bandwidth. Also add a HDD to it. Get WD it will be better. ... and yes all parts will fit together in that case. .... Your power supply will be more than enough for your built or future sli. ...
Do's:
1) always clean all the components first before fitting it in case. Remove the dust.
2) clean your case every 4-6 months , remove the dust neatly.
3) when builting, always get the help of YouTube to see how to install the parts correctly.
4) make the good cooling system in the case.
5) after built, check the temp first of all the components because if any component is faulty, it will create more temp.
6) put your case in a ventilated area because cooling is the main part of case.
7) install the CPU immediately after unboxing it.

Don'ts:
1) when installing cpu, don't touch it's pins and the CPU socket of the motherboard.

in this case there is. You keep your os and some programs and games in the fast drive (ssd) and keep large files like movies in the slow drive (hhd). I have this config but with a 120gb ssd (which isn't quite enough). 250gb should.

Alrighty! After much more researching I've come up with this:

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
stock fans replaced with 2: Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm Fan
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB Twin Frozr Video Card
Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)

I may raid 0 and SLI later, but not until my I become a little more tech savvy.

Pcpartpicker didn't register any incompatibilities, but I jut want to check with the gurus first. :p

I think the case comes with fans? I couldn't find any details about how many they come with or what size. If the NF-F12s fit, I was thinking of replacing the case stock fans.

How does the build look?

Is there sufficient cooling & power for this?
Will all my components fit safely?

So excited to get this done! 8D

Looks like they do have fans. Fans everywhere.

They have included a 200mm fan on the top (they mention that the top fan mount can be for 200mm x1, or 140mm x2, or 120mm x2). Will I have to take this fan away to use my H105? If yes, with the removal of this fan, will my system still be cool enough with the H105 and the remaining case fans (front: 120mm x2, rear: 140mm x1)
