Strange issues with USB 3.0 Media Bay Front Panel and Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V

I have just built a system with a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3v motherboard, an i3-2100 pro and 4gb ram. I built it as a second hackingtosh to experiment with installs before applying to my main hackingtosh system. However at the moment it is temporarily running Win 8.1 whilst I upgrade my workshop "workhorse" to a new CPU and Win 8.1
I have just purchased a front panel media bay from ebay here and installed it. However I have had some strange issues.

When first installed and connected all the leads to the motherboard the system would not boot. I therefore removed all the motherboard connections and attached one at a time. The system now boots but the system case light(Lian-Li case with front LEDS) and Hard drive lights stay on permanently even when the machine is powered down.
Both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports work and memory sticks or devices plugged in to them are accessed fine. I have not had time to try eSata or Sata yet but the SD card slot is not recognising any cards inserted and the red light (which I assume is an access light and should flash as data is accessed) stay on permanently.
The problem is reduced if I unplug the USB 3.0 connection from the motherboard. The chassis light and hard drive light go off and operate as normal.
I have checked and double checked the connections but they can only go onto the board one way I assume there is therefore a fault with the USB 3.0 connectors or the panels is in some way incompatible with this motherboard?

Did you connect the power cord as well? 4-pin molex

Did you try an SDXC SD card? Because these are not supported
"All-in-one Card Reader: Support SD/MMC/SDHC, CF/CF II/HS CF/MD, MS/ MS DUO/MS PRO, XD, TF/T-Flash, M2"

it´s a bit strange: over the microphone plug are provided 12V/5V.

try to disable ehci usb or enable legacy usb in BIOS

update the BIOS of your Mainboard (in bios itself, not Windows!)

suggestion:
Buy something with bit more quality

Thanks Helpstar. Your last sentence cut me to the bone ;-).

Yes attached the molex as this supplies power to the external +5v and+12 v connector for powering external eSata connected drives. The SD slot works fine when I remove the USB 3.0 plug from the motherboard header so it's got to be something to do with this. These aren't usb hubs but an extension socket so don't even need drivers so not sure what a bios upgrade would achieve but happy to try. My gut feeling as the case lights stay on is there is some sort of short or feed through on the usb 3 connection. I have come across issues in the past where I have had to remove the pin on usb2.0 header which has the screen connected due to shorts. There are lots of other posts from people also having problems particularly with Asus boards and front usb3.0 connectors. I am not sure intel and the motherboard manufacturers have ironed out all the teething problems with usb 3.0. Fozzie
