Hi guys,

Was playing a game on the pc last night and all of a sudden heard a bit of a pop and the entire machine turned itself off and now won't start at all.

Initially I thought it was the power supply since I put an nVidia 750 Ti card in it last year to allow me to do a bit of gaming. The 750 Ti only needs a 350w PSU and has no external power connectors so draws all its power from the slot. The PSU is the lite-on 350w job that came with the machine but I figure it's getting a bit old now (bought the machine in 2011).

Thought I'd check in here though to see peoples thoughts as while plugged in, the green light on the back of the PSU is still on so I'm worried it may actually be a problem with the motherboard rather than the PSU. Any suggestions for how I could check this without just ordering a new PSU?

Thanks!

You can test the psu with the paperclip test, something like this, http://support.antec.com/support/articles/1000015319-is-my-power-supply-dead-the-paperclip-test

But do never have the psu pluged in while you put the paperclip there.

After you tried that if it works, then you can put it back and see if you get any post screen from the mobo or any beep at all and see if any of the leds on it if it have any is lighted.

but start with the psu and then come back here and we will go more into details

I actually had mine not wanting to start or even POST 6 months ago - found the cure on the net: unplug and replug all conections and VOILA it wrked again - i am actually surprised i still have this computer (had it since 2010) but it still runs the games solid - only upgrade: 250GB SSD boot drive - boots in 15 seconds - great
