I have a Barracuda Seagate ST340014A hard drive from an old computer. I need to somehow get the data off it.

I thought i could install it in a fairly new computer but the sockets on the HD are different to the cords on the new computer. See this picture of the Seagate, they're the inputs it's after.

Does anyone even just know what those sockets are called so I can try & source a compatible computer? Or any other solutions to get the data off the drive?

It depends which adapter your looking at, you'll also have ones that come with the power source connector and ones without. Here's a detailed YouTube video on how to use them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS-xTR7Puu8

If you have any other questions let me know. If not select a solution :)

New HDDs use SATA connectors as old HDDs use IDE connectors. If you really want to get the data off the HDD you can either plug it into a old computer and transfer it to a external HDD or buy a SATA to IDE adapter, they are quite cheap ranging from anywhere between 10 to 30 dollars from elec/comp stores, hope that helps. If so, select a solution. :)

OK great, thanks Rayven2. I see some photos of IDE to SATA adapters where the SATA cable & power hook into the IDE slot leaving the IDE power socket empty. Will the IDE HDD still get power this way?
