My friend play Battlefield 3 quite a bit and normally at lower settings and plans on using the Unreal editor and I should be coming into some money soon, I need help picking out a Processor and Graphics card for roughly $400 , Ive been thinking on it and so far the best I can think of is a FX-8370e and a R9-285 or 280x which would allow him to do alot , and when running on all cores the FX-8350 can actually perform just as well or better than an i7-3770k , if you want look up the benchmarks , of course the Intel processor beats it in most applications , but when using all 8 of its Modular cores it does end up being better

The FX 8350 does not actually perform better than a core i7 processor, but you can keep telling yourself that. Anyway make SURE your friend can buy a motherboard, I would hate to have such a nice gift given to me that I can't even use for a week because of shipping and things like that. The FX 8350 does seem like your best bet though and an R9 280 would go perfect with the processor. Since he plays battlefield 4 a lot I could see him really taking advantage of AMD mantle.

The parts I looked up:
R9 280($194.99)

FX 8370($199.99)

You seem to have it figured out, if you would like to substitute in a Nvidia graphics card (Battlefield 3 is optimized better for Nvidia cards), then the 960 would be a valid choice as well. Although in other titles, the 285 and 280x should out-preform it.

Adjust these more or less based on shipping and taxes in your area.

Honestly look at the benchmarks , when rendering the FX-8350 can win vs the i7-3770K , in games the i7-3770K runs laps around the 8350 xD
But thank you anyways :)
