they'd both have to go to the slowest of each, so you'll end up with 16gb of 1600mhz cas11, and that's not guaranteed, sometimes rams will not be compatible, and these vary a lot. I ran 1600mhz cas 9, one 4gb and one 8gb stick and that's fine, but I'm not too sure with different speed and cas RAM

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.

All ram must run at the same voltage, speed and timings.
This is harder to do with 4 sticks which is why a 4 stick kit will cost more than a 2 stick kit of the same capacity.
If your two kits can match well enough, you have a good chance of running.
Since you already bought, you have little choice but to try it.

If you fail, market your two kits in favor of a 2 x 16gb supported kit.
