Hello, I'm looking to build a G3258 build as i have roughly £250 Christmas money and roughly £100 for my birthday Thursday. Was wondering if you guys could help me out a bit.
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/cPPpRB
This is what im currently thinking, i have 6GB HP ram from this computer and a disc drive.
My current pc consists of:
Amd athlon 760k
Radeon HD 6770
6GB Hp ram

Was just wondering if this would be a good upgrade, All help appreciated
Rhys
P.S : im also selling an A6-5400k and a radeon 7450 on ebay but dont know if they will sell, if they do they will go towards my budget.

More and more games are being released that require a quad core cpu, so I would steer away from the dual core G3258 and stick with your 760k.

That doesn't mean anything though when you consider the benchmarks of a Pentium G3258 vs. an Athlon X4-760K: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-G3258-vs-AMD-Athlon-X4-760K

The 212 Evo isn't really necessary for a Pentium G, unless you're running a Z97 motherboard you can get by on a mild overclock with just the multiplier on the stock fan. That will save you some money there. This is what I would suggest for such a build:

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor (£49.14 @ Aria PC)...

Looks like a pretty decent inexpensive build. There is not much I would change on it other then you need a motherboard that will let you overclock the G3258 as that chip gets to 4-5ghz prettu easy.

Use most of your budget on the best GPU you can afford . ( also upgrade PSU if needed.)

Upgrading to 8gb of ram is a good idea, but you could probably sqeak by with 6gb.

Thanks guys the reason im getting a G3258 is so that when eventually all games do require quad core i can upgrade to an i5 just that right now im on a tight budget and im having problems with my 760k. I dont really play the latest games anyway just World of Warcraft and Fifa 15 at the moment

I am currently using the G3258 and it is serving me well for the time being. But it sucks to know that if I want to play GTA V in march I will need to upgrade to at least an i5. As far as I can tell the 760K will be able to play GTA V and the G3258 wont be able to. I'd say that means something.

I would go with an i3, over a pentium. In real world situations, the i3 is simply better. I would go with something more like this.

CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz Dual-Core Processor (£78.79 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H81M-D2V Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£38.00 @ Aria PC)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£40.39 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: Palit GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB StormX Dual Video Card (£118.50 @ Scan.co.uk)
Case: Thermaltake Commander MS/I Snow Edition (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (£33.16 @ CCL Computers)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (£38.52 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £347.36

That's one thing that is great about using H81 as opposed to FM2 is that you can add all the way up to an i7-4770 whereas with FM2 the most you can have is an 860K, and those definitely won't handle GTA V very well.

While I would save my money and probably go Xeon 1231v3, I do agree the general statement. H81 still has real upgrade options, while FM2+ really doesn't have anything worthwhile. An i3 4xxx is already better than anything from FM2+.

Yep...you guys are probably right all around. I knew I would have to upgrade at some point, but it will be much sooner than I anticipated and those damn i5 chips are expensive.
