I am building a PC and is targetting to use it for 3-4 years.
Ive read that the upcoming games are making better us of the number of cores of a CPU rather than its raw power.
I will be using my PC mainly to game at the highest settings possible at 1080p.

With that in mind. Should i go for an AMD or an Intel CPU?

Solution
If gaming - Go intel i5 or better
If you are on a tight budget and play mostly single player games then you could go for an fx6300.

Right now games use 1 main thread for drawcalls and thats usually getting killed and AMD can't handle that load on 1 core.

Im gonna spend around $1200(converted from my native currency) on my build. Of course I wont be able to buy everything i want with that budget so every savings helps in getting better components.

So no matter how I look at it. Intel is still superior?
Could you guys tell me why I might even consider getting an AMD CPU?

intel core i5 is the sweet spot for gaming. if you are doing more than gaming the i7 will be the pick.

fx 4 sereis (id go g3258) fx 6 series (id rather go core i3) fx 8 and 9 series (definitely id go for core i5)

As for gaming only there's no reason to choose AMD, I got my FX-8320 because I do use all 8 cores with Vmachines and Virtual Routers for my studies, other people use it for rendering videos, so for 120-150$ is a great option, but in gaming any i5 performs better (from slightly to far better) than any AMD offering.

Reasons to go AMD are:
-compiling/rendering / video editing on a lower budget
-AMD APUs using integrated graphics overclock very well on the gpu side and offer a good price/performance without buying a graphics card
-working with virtual machines

So Intel is so far ahead that I should just completely overlook an AMD CPU?
I guess Ill go with a 4590 and a gtx 970.
Should get a z97 board? (mainly because i think the new broadwells might be supported on z97 chipset and i plan to upgrade in the future.)

when broadwell does come out its not gonna warrant a Upgrade, as is will still be 1150 the increase in performance wont be that huge, just go 4590 +h97 budget boards, it will do the job for less money and most h97 boards now support OC with k cpus

I know nobody could tell the future but do you think my 4590 would last me 3 years before i have to replace it? because going from a 4590 to a 4690k is quite a huge step.

That being said. I would still be able to play new games at ultra on a 1080p display?
I dont want to be a nuissance. I just want to be extremely sure of what i am buying. I did saved for a year to get this money so I dont want to waste it.

Also i would like to ask a question. I play games mostly on the side of RTS. Civ 5 or anno stuff like that.
I rarely play FPS because frankly i think its all the same.
Any ways are those games heavily influenced by CPU? or is the Ram?

Do you have any suggestions as to what motherboard is a good one to use? Because I really have no idea on how to pick one. and correct me if i am wrong but do are all h97 chipset motherboards unable to support SLI?

Yeah i could only spend so much on my monitor without cringing. What sucks is I live in the philippines and there not much to pick with regards to brands. anyways do you think a MicroATX would do? since i wont SLI anyways.
And also what is the advantages of a full atx to a micro atx?

pre if you are planning on overcloking on a h97 make sure the capacitors on your motherboard are of good quality, i suggest asus and gigabyte for that. but if you dont plan to overlock get a non k series core i5 and a b85 motherboard if you are tight on your budget.
