Good day all who read this. I'm about to order and build this beast below. Before I pull the trigger on the purchase I'd appreciate some comments on my parts choice. Just some quick background; I plan on doing some light workstation work (Photoshop, stocks and other productive money making things) so I have an ips already purchased, but the main use for this computer is obviously gaming for the next 3 or so years. The main rationale behind me choosing the x99 platform over the 97, is the possibility of upgrading components as newer things come out and the benefit of growing with a new form factor. I am going with the three TN panels below because I have become accustomed to having 3 monitors. I am currently using ASUS VH238H purchased in 2011 and they are showing their age and ruining my vision a bit. While this might be inconsequential I am going with a red and black theme in my office, have already purchased a DXracer chain in those same colors, so the parts choice also reflects this.

I present The Lord Dickbutt and thank you for your time

Looks solid to me. You do not need thermal compound as the H105 already comes with it preapplied. You are overpaying the PSU but I don't think this is worrying a man who is spending 5k on a build. The rest looks good to me :)

CPU: Its fine
Mobo: Its fine
CPU Cooler: Its fine
GPU: Wooooaaa! You honestly don't need dual 980s. Dual 970s will last just the same amount. Buying the 980, you gain about 15% more performance. Not economically smart.
Storage: Its fine, are you using a NAS?
Case: You could get by with a smaller case, but personal pref is the leader i guess.
PSU: There are cheaper PSUs out there, but if you want that, its fine

yikes, I forgot how quick people are on toms. Thanks for the reply's. I am really going for quality in this build as well. I want these parts to last without having to many issues. Also please, I'd appreciate some advice on part alternatives if any of the choices come off as daft.

I don't think he is considered about $ :p

Drops the 2 980s, gets 2 970s, and could then get a 5930k.

Much better plan.

Thats actually not a bad idea. But the recent memory usage scandle going on with the 970s has me on edge about choosing them. I hate feeling ripped off and while they are nice cards I don't know. I liken it to Porsche Cayman vs the 911. In general the Cayman is a better car and can out preform the 911 based solely on engineering alone. But Porsche made the car purposefully worse than the 911 because nothing could be seen to beat their flagship car.

Regarding that issue, nVidia explained that the memory connections are designed in a way that only allocates 3.5gbs instead of the full 4. Honestly, 7 Gigs of Vram is HUGE. Well over any thing you are going to need. But if your heart is set on the 980, go for it! ;)

That's not how SLI works. When SLIing you only get what one card has. So SLI 980s only get 4GB of VRAM in total. And don't get a 970 right now. I feel like I was just slapped in the face by Nvidia since I got my 970 when it came out. And odds are they might need to recall them and then how pissed would you be when you find out you can't game on your rig since you have to ship them back. However this is all speculation. But no one can ignore the fact that Nvidia oversaw this. No matter what this looks bad for Nvidia. Either they knew about this issue or they didn't do enough testing on the cards. I don't know which is worse.

Really? They might recall. Damn. I think I not gonna buy my Gigabyte 970 just yet. Might just go ahead and buy a 780 TI. Cheap as hell now a days. :D

I agree completely, I was going to purchase a r9 295x2 but the card is old hat at the moment and I don't want to kick myself wen something better comes out at a similar price point a month after purchase. The proposed 980 TI cards look to be monsters on paper but they will undoubtedly cost an arm and a leg above the current 980 price. I'm guessing in the realm of $900 a card, based upon Nvidias' track record. I also suspect they won't see daylight until 2016,

My guess is Q3/4 for the 980 Ti so I like two 980s would be safest for now. :D

exactly, This way if I do decide to upgrade I can get the most money back for those 980s instead of battling against consumer bias when replacing 970s
