Hi all,

Looking for some advice in upgrading my system to be able to tackle the "next gen" games on the PC. I currently run;

AMD Phenom ii 955BE 3.2GHz
4GB DRR2 Ram
ATI HD 5770
Gigabyte AM3+ Mobo.
500GB Seagate HD.
400Watt PSU but this can be replaced easily.

I am able to run the likes of BF3 with a good fps with medium to high settings and would just like to work towards making the PC a bit more current.

I have 6GB of DRR3 1600MHz a mate is giving me but the Mobo I have does not support DRR3 ram. I was thinking of purchasing a new MOBO and a AMD FX 8350 with the new Ram but since my PC is only used for gaming and some internet browsing I'm not sure which way to move since a lot of place indicate that a Graphics card is the single best upgrade but with my system being so old I'm wondering could the graphics card hold off for a few months or not? I'm think of getting the R9 270x, yes I do enjoy the bang for buck AMD products :)

I don't have a great budget for this since I have a new baby at home but basically 300 quid sterling so could possibly only afford the Mobo + CPU or Mobo + GPU.

In fact if it wasn't for my birthday I'm pretty sure the Mrs wouldn't even be allowing it lol. I don't require savage FPS or anything like, I just want to enjoy games at a solid 50+ fps, Dragon Age Inquisition or Rome 2 Total War.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Just overclock your CPU - its a black edition after all, and that thing can easily reach the same speeds as the 8350 - This would require an after market cooler, (£20ish) plus thermal paste (£3-5)
6GB is a weird number, likely from a triple channel set-up (3x2gb)- triple channel set-ups are dead now. it will work in your set-up but I would recommend at least 8GB for any build running Windows 7/8 plus used for gaming. (I.E. get another 2gb or ram in there)
PSU I would recommend getting something that is a bit larger than you think you need., 600-700W, plus dont get a cheap one. Even if you burn the rest of the PC at some point, this will happily go for 5-10 years no problem.
GPU upgrade is a definite...

GPU upgrade is a definite. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-graphics-card-review,review-32899-7.html - go through the chart and see what you can afford, and compare the relative performance. - might be able to get something that works just as well or better for cheaper.

I know I haven't listed any parts, but that's because I believe you should know why you are spending your money and where before just throwing cash at it.
