First build on my own with thermal paste and all that done by myself. The first seating of the cooler onto the CPU seemed lopsided (the spring screws with the mounting kit of the Noctua were uneven). I uninstalled (used 91% alcohol and a microfiber cloth) and it also looked like the thermal paste (noctua's) had ran over the edge of the cpu surface. So I went with the pea-sized again, but this time a little smaller. Reseated it, turned it about 1/4 turn on one side, then the other, and repeat until they wouldn't turn anymore (they are made to not turn past a certain point).

Anyway, so I booted up my motherboard (Maximus VII Hero) and used the XMP profile to set my 9-9-9-24 1600 ram to 1600 (was at boards 1333). The temp idled with the side of the case off at 28-30 degrees. Is that normal temperatures for my build? I know I'll have to look under load. I just wanted to be sure it sounded like my paste application and seating went ok.

Other fans are Noctua 120 x's 3 in the front, and a Noctua 120 + 80 in the rear. Mind you my case was open when that first boot temp was recorded.

Thanks! I'm just nervous cause it's my first build!

That looks fine. My 4790K OC'd to 4.7Ghz idles and does normal day-to-day work at about 35-50'C with a custom water loop. If yours is stock clock at 4.0Ghz then ~30'C is good.
