Ok, so this may be hard to explain :p

I have a system in which uses a SSD and a HDD. The operating system and software is on the SSd and the HDD is for all my large game files.

This is the problem I have now : I have got 2 SATA cables, on in my SSD and HDD, but i need to install a Disk game, so i need to use my optical drive. BUT i do not have a third SATA data cable. So can i use the SSD and install the game to the SSD then replug in my HDD and transfer all the game files over? Or will it break my system?

take your cheap self on down to the store and buy a .99$ cable. when you originally install a program and you point to the install location, the installer will automatically link the DLL libraries and other support files to that location. moving files after an install is a good way to break a program.

Some programs react badly to being moved out of their original installation folders (registry links/prorgram paths). If something breaks, it will usually just be on the program you use. If you have win7/have access to Backup/Restore points, then make a Restore point before you install the program.

I do what you're planning to do (switching cables to and fro) and most of the games i've transferred worked after moving their folders to other HDs. Just take care when plugging/unplugging the sata cables (i treat my hd's like babies), ground yourself, remove psu power cable, etc.

edit: hmm can't downvote..

Another way to do it is to make an image of your CD using daemon tools lite, and install it from that image.
