Hello all,

i am interested to upgrate my graphic card to ' Asus AMD Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC ' ( http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9290DC2OC4GD5/ ) and i have some questions that can help my decision.

I am currently have GIGABYTE GeForce GTS 450. My main issue arise due to my old motherboard 'ASUS P8P67 LE' which has one slot PCI express 16x v.2 (NO pci express 16x v3 slot). I have read that pci express 16x v2 wont be a serious or at all bottleneck on performance of interested graphic card that runs on PCI express 16x v3 (which is backward compatible like most hardware).

However i am wondering if i will see a significant different while gaming if i upgrade to ' Asus AMD Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC ' or is something else restricting its performance on my system that it wont worth the upgrade. What are the specifications that will create a significant difference on my current system if upgrade to the new graphic card?
Generally i am running with I7-2600K , 8GB DDR3 dual channel mode and windows 7 64bit installed on a SSD ocz-vertex4.
i am attaching also 2 image links taken with techpowerup GPU-Z with rendering test on (for graphic card info) and HwiNFO64 screenshot (for system info)

i have also another specific question: what can be the maximum bandwidth (as appear on GPU-Z screenshot) after upgrade considering that pci express slot of my motherboard is 16x version 2 and other system information available. what restrict that bandwidth?

Thank you for you time.

If further information is needed please let me know to provide it

Running a graphics card intended for PCI-E 3.0 in a PCI-E 2.0 slot isn't a big deal at all. The speeds are so close that you'll only lose about 5% performance, max. I run a GTX 970 on a PCI-E 2.0 motherboard and it works great.

Thank you both of you for your reply.
As i mentioned my concern is the system as a whole and not only the pci express 16x v2. For example when i play word of tanks in automatically best performance settings my graphic card memory used in around 700mb from 1000 (i saw it from GPU-Z) that existing card support. gameplay is also from 28 - 35 FPS. so as per my understanding memory of the card is not problem for that settings . in consideration that the new card will be 4GB what are those specifications on it that will boost my performance and FPS further than the 4GB memory on it

thanks again

Memory is not one of them; at least not in the way you seem to think. The less of the total VRAM pool the card is using, the better. If the memory usage were to hit or exceed 1000MB, then the memory would begin to negatively impact your performance.

Thank you for your help. i think i will go for the upgrade :) GTX 970 was also one of my considerations but i think also with ASUS Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II i will still have significance increase from my old card.
