I only want people who remember when console ports of FPS's sucked and Doom, Quake and games like that were meant for PC to answer this? (I will accept answers like Goldeneye, Halo, COD and a couple of more obscure games)
FPSs kinda never stood out where I live until CoDs came into play. Sure, things like Quake, Doom or UT were known, but they weren't very popular, as you would have mostly seen Monkey Islands, Commander Keens, or some other DOS stuff I can't recall, at least on PCs. Consoles, on the other hand, were dominated by platformers, fighting games and RPGs.
Eventually, CoD came out of nowhere and boom, massive sales...
Conkers Bad Fur Day and Golden Eye on the N64 were the first 2 really popular ones in the area because of the split screen feature.
With Twisted Metal, I'd say that it isn't a fps due to the fact that it's in 3rd person perspective. Same with Starfox 64; which was really popular around the area.
