Hi, I have the HP Stream 11 laptop, and i was bored with windows 8.1 with bing so i installed xubuntu but had issues with the internet drivers. So, I looked for a windows 8.1 with bing installer and couldnt find any online. I got a windows 8.1 pro installer and put it on the laptop with not much difficulty. However, when in windows 8.1 it starts up with the system performance options to add a pagefile or virtual ram. I did this and upon restarting, it reset itself. I made sure i pressed set, ok, apply, and all that. I keep getting low memory errors and games and applications crash whenever i use too much. I dont know why this was happening and even tried adding 4gb of virtual ram and it still reset itself on reboot. The system managed pagefile wouldnt work either. Please help me fix this or have a download to the stock HP Stream 11 windows 8.1 with bing. I would not like to pay $40 for the HP usb recovery and have a 2nd hp stream 11 available if it would help fix this problem

You cannot use a retail Windows 8 image to do an OEM reinstallation. Perhaps, if you did not destroy the recovery partition, you can just reset to the new machine state. Backup all of your data first of course.

If you want to reinstall Windows 8 OEM, you need the OEM disk: en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_4065090 Unfortunately, if you are not an MSDN subscriber it is not readily available.

Yes i know this, my problem is I set all the settings, and when i reboot when prompted it resets the settings for paging file so i get the low ram error. I was wondering how to fix it resetting these when i know i saved them properly.

I also have a second HP stream 11 but when i tried to make a recovery usb and use it on the other Stream 11 it wouldnt let me restore to stock (it was grayed out) I also couldnt use windows recovery because my hard drive was locked and im not sure what that means, and the required partition was missing, which i know is my fault.

We don't encourage piracy at Tom's and cannot discuss where to get the version that you need. All I can tell you is what version you need, and that the Microsoft USB tool works for both 7 and 8.

I can say that I would not buy a recovery disk for $40 though.

Did you destroy your recovery partition with the Ubuntu install?

I have this exact same problem. Have you found a resolution yet? I really don't want to go back to the original setup, I would only do that to sell the netbook. I'd like to keep it but it;'s very difficult to resolve this issue.
