Hi guys,

Wondering if any of you can help, I've currently got a Samsung evo 840, with an 850 on the way but have been having some issues using the magician software, not the data migration, that works totally fine.

For some reason whenever magician is loaded up, after 5-10 seconds it just crashes, which is quite annoying as it works on my other machines, making me think this is some kind of software conflict. I've asked Samsung support and they're literally useless, so was wondering if anyone here could shed some light on what might be going on.

Also, it doesn't show there but the laptop has a dedicated Nvidia GT 540M

Thanks guys,
Dan

I had a similar error on one of my client's computers and spoke with Samsung support. Its an issue with WMI "Windows Management Instrumentation". They had me try a fix they provided, but it didn't work, Windows was too broken and it was also a clone of the client's previous drive. Fresh installed Windows onto the SSD. Client never had an issue again.
You're probably right that it's a software conflict, however I don't think I can help much as those can be difficult to find and fix.

*Other than removing and re-installing a FRESH COPY (download new) I don't have much advice.

If reinstalling won't work then I suggest installing only to setup your SSD then remove it.

Other:
I should add that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to W7/W8 users. That could easily solve your problem. Thus consider doing this:

1. Obtain W10 64-bit (if 64-bit) ISO and burn image
*Wait until three months after official release to sort out more bugs.

2. Create a BACKUP IMAGE of your Windows drive (Acronis True Image, Windows Backup etc)

3. Insert DVD (or USB thumb drive) and apply the update

Other:
When you "upgrade" from W7 to W10 you actually get a FRESH installation of W10 after which it moves the programs (including registry links) and data back. This often fixes errors.

As a copy of Windows that your laptop manufacturer didn't modify this can sometimes break minor things (usually related to screen keyboard shortcuts). I've NEVER noticed any problems on many machines though and one benefit is you can use the official drivers for video which often you can't for laptops (so you have outdated video drivers).

I've seen something similar online, I've run the checks on the WMI database and it says everything is consistent, other than magician everything seems to be running totally fine

No.
The only issue you're aware of is Samsung Magician. As I said you can set things up the way you want them and delete Samsung Magician.

Once SM has made its changes they still stay that way unless you modify them some other way.

Reinstalling Windows is a pretty big hassle just to fix something that's not much of an issue.

(and again, you can update to Windows 10 later for free and that SHOULD fix any issues like this since the process is a clean install after which it should move your installed programs and data over if you've chosen to keep your programs)
