So I recently built a computer using the ASrock z97 Extreme 3 Motherboard. None of the audio jacks on the computer are working. In windows (8.1), It says on the playback devices manager that the speakers are not plugged in, but it still shows the Realtek Digital Output as working. However, no sound is coming out. I have tried a few things I have seen worked for other people such as re-installing the drivers, but I have not had any success. If there are no options that could fix this with the computer I have, would purchasing a sound card to put in one of the expansion slots work? I really would not like to RMA it unless absolutely necessary.

You appear to have set Realtek Digital Output as your primary audio source however it won't make any sound unless connected to external speakers via the proper digital output.

Are you using the DIGITAL or ANALOG outputs?

You can test the Analog by attaching stereo speakers or headphones to the GREEN 3.5mm output and make sure Playback Devices is selecting the correct output (not digital).
