I just got this card and it is idling at 63-65 degrees Celsius, at load on valley benchmark i get about 75-80. Also, air flow is not the problem, I've testing 3 other msi gtx 970s and they idle around 35-40 in this exact case.

asrock z87e-itx
corsair vengeance 2x4gb
Corsair ax 760
EVGA GTX 970 FTW+
Corsair 250d

I am seeing that the ftw+ still got that but I recommend the new ssc+ so far coil whine with it seems be none [go figure ] at least at the newegg reviews of the 2 cards -- seeing all the 970 issues across the board [any brand ] its just a NVidia design issue in some way or a bad spec'ed part in the design

those gtx 970's just started off on the wrong foot some how [opinion] something just anit right with them

anyway glad you found a resolve for the main issue you posted with

good luck

I contacted them and all he could say is it's either my air flow, needs new thermal paste ( which i don't have ) or just to RMA it. It will be my fourth gtx 970. Im getting really pissed.

seems like as far as a gtx 970 goes just join the club ... I am surprised that it did that I would do the rma and be done with it

a was looking around at reviews of that card and did not see any reports for anyone with this kinda of issue so it maybe just bad luck all around for you on this ??

I got a thread with a guy that said he ordered one and just waiting to see how he does with it when he gets it in

sad thing is look at all the threads and what ever about the 970 way too many [any brand ] but I did feel this new evga card was the way to now go ???
