Hello,
I am doing a HTPC build and have got everything to work except my WD 3tb green sata hd. I have updated the bios, exchanged the harddrive, tried different ports on the motherbord, and still I cannot get the motherboard to recognize the harddrive. It just will not show up in the bios and thus i cannot see it in windows 8 from the disk utility menu. Please advise

Hey there, andyprubin!

I'm very sorry to hear about your WD Green drive causing you such issues. :(
I think you might be dealing with a faulty HDD. I'd suggest to test the drive, but it doesn't get detected anywhere. You could try using a SATA-to-USB cable to see if that will get it recognized.
However, I strongly recommend getting in touch with our tech support and let them know about this.
If it's still under warranty you can send an RMA request through the tech support and get a replacement.
Here are their contact: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Qu0jgl

Hope that was helpful! Keep me posted! :)

Don't worry, this happened to me too. There is absolutely no problem with your HDD and to fix it, you need to "enable" the drive and I will tell you how to do that now.

Go and open a program called "Disk Management" you should be able to find this program in the search bar. Go to the 3TB hard drive and in the partitions area (it will be a big box with the Drive name in it) you should be able to see that the Drive is "Unallocated", simply right click the drive and click "Format". (Make sure there is nothing inside the HDD!) Once the computer formats the Drive, it should be recognisable and usable for the computer.

Basically formatting the HDD makes the drive readable to the system, therefore you can use it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I sadly cannot see the drive in the disk management. I am guessing that is because it is not seen by the BIOS.

Let me give a little more detail. I am using an SSD as the boot drive so i really only want the 3TB HDD as storage. I replaced the 3tb drive once thinking it was broke from amazon so it cant be the drive (or it would be really unlucky). I did try the 3tb drive on another pc using the hot swap bay but still could not see it either in disk utility or the bios.
