Mixing memory and clock speeds

HI I currently have 16gb of ram (2x8gb) running at 1600

I have two spare 8 gb spare (2x4gb) that is 1333

All the Ram is g.skill ripping jaws X

My plan is to put the other 8gb of ram in and overclock it to 1600 either with the xmp profile or manual overclock to level them at 1600.

Good idea or bad idea? anyone else running mismatched modules?

Mismatched modules are never guaranteed to work, but no harm in trying.
The chances of over clocking DDR3-1333 to 1600 speed aren't great though.
You have a much better chance of getting it working with all dimms running at 1333 speed, which isn't going to be a massive drop in performance over your current configuration.

VincentP ironed it out pretty well for you, OP - can't hurt unless your MB doesn't like it, but much better off using matched batches

Give 'em a try, 8GB sticks in 1-3 and and 4GB in 2-4 (from CPU) - initially would st to 1333 manually and set timings same then prob will need about + 0.06 extra voltage to the DRAM voltage
