Hello everyone, i apologise for any format mistakes, since this is my first post in Tom’s hardware forums.

Long story short, I want to build a new computer, and I expected it to cost around 900-1000€. However, after looking at the parts suggestions from tomshardware and many other websites, I still have my doubts, since the “Wanted” build surpasses my budget, while the tuned down version I’m afraid won’t be good enough for my needs, like for example i5 offering half the I7 cores.

PS: I'm looking for tips, like "Get this piece instead of this one", "It's worth paying a little more on your build" "this piece is no good", etc. or just entire builds which you propose :)

Approximate Purchase Date: A week to a month

Budget Range: 1000€

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Playing modern games, 3D game design (Unreal SDK, Crytek..) , streaming

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade:

"Wanted" build:

CPU - i7 4790K - 323E
MOBO – MSI Gaming 5 - 155E
RAM – Ripjaws X 1866 16GB - 130E
VENT CPU – Cooler master TX3 EVo – 20E
HDD – Seagate barracuda 1TB – 55E
SDD – Crucial MX100 256GB – 100E
PSU – Corsair vs650 80plus – 63E
GPU- Msi GEFORCE Gtx970 windforce 4gb – 350E
CASE -- ?

It ends up about ~1200E without counting the case (i dont knw much about them) so, it's a bit too pricey, despite very good.

"Tuned down" build:

CPU - i5 4690K - 222E
MOBO – MSI Gaming 3 - ASROCK Z97 133E / 95E
RAM – Ripjaws X 1866 8GB - 68E
VENT CPU – Cooler master TX3 EVo – 20E
HDD – Seagate barracuda 1TB – 55E
SDD – Samsung 840EVO SSD 120GB – 70E
PSU – Tacens radix vii 600w 80+ silver – 40E
GPU Msi GEFORCE Gtx970 4gb – 350E
CASE - ?

Results at ~950E, which means i could play around with the price a bit

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: pccomponentes.com

Location: Spain (Will order online)

Parts Preferences: INTEL CPU and a new model GTX

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire:No

Your Monitor Resolution:1920x1080

Additional Comments: If i missed an important part, please tell me (maybe wifi connector? or does the MOBO have one already?)

As you can see, i've done my research and tried to pick the parts that were best for the price, but still i'm sure i have made a lot of mistakes

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:

My old amd athlon needs retirement already. Modern games run at single-digit fps on this old glory

Thank you for your time and answers!

I don't know the prices for those parts in your country, but $1084 comes out to 999.63€

Solution
the i5 and i7 are the same cpu inside. the i7 has intel hyperthreading (four of the cores are not real and you need a game or an ap to use the hyperthreading. keep the i5. if you have too pick up a locked core and a h97 mb. you can always add more ram when you have the money. on the ssd pick up the 256g drive. the 128g is good for the os and one or two games. the 256g let you put a few games and aps on it. on the power supply dont go cheap. if you do under gaming load the power supply can shut down or pop. if it pops it can take out your gaming rig. on cases look at corsair cases like the r300 and others. look at there layout where you can put in long gpu and the hard drive bays are not stopping you. the older cases have fixed bays and fixed lenths for gpus.

Archgaull build seems perfect, though as you said smor, maybe a 256 drive would be good...

However the hyperthread seems necessary to me not to fall behind... hmm...
