Any one of those boards is an excellent choice. I have the z97 GD-65 Gaming and love it. The Gaming 5 would of been fine for me, but I needed the extra sata ports for all my hard drives/SSD's. It overclocks really well, and the onboard sound is also very very good once you install Sound Blaster cinema software. The killer nic has been alright as well, though some complain about it for some reason. My only advice is that you get the latest drivers from their website first and place them on a USB. The ones on the disk are old and issues have been fixed along the way(nothing serious). Make sure to register your product in case you have to RMA at some point as well. It will make the process a whole lot smoother.

The gaming 5 has 6 sata ports and the GD-65 has 8. The GD-65 has 12 phase CPU power and the gaming 5 has 8 phase. The GD-65 should be the more stable overclocker of the two. As for the rest, the sound is the same, the nic is the same, and they both support 2 way sli/xfire. 3 way xfire is possible with the GD-65, but not SLI.

PS: The MSI z97 GD-65 is now known as the MSI z97 Gaming 7. They just added a couple features and discontinued the GD-65 afaik.

High-ultra at 1080p in most games with the r9 270x. If you want more than that, you may want to grab a r9 280x or a GTX970. The 280x can be had for around $220-250 usually on sale, and the GTX970 will set you back 329.99-400ish depending on the model. The r9 280x will give you 1080p ultra in pretty much everything, and the GTX970 can do 1440p in pretty much everything.

If you are working with a budget, you could always grab the Gaming 5 and use the extra money to go towards the video card. The gaming 5 may top out around 4.5-4.6ghz and the gaming 7 may give you 4.7-4.8ghz, but this all comes down to how well your CPU overclocks as well. Some can't even reach 4.5ghz, no matter what board you have.
