Hi all,

Had a question to see if I can get some clarification. I built a computer for running Steam OS exclusively. Valve recommends using Ubuntu Linux as the base to load their OS which is basically a Linux shell.

My system includes a 1TB HD used but not bricked. I already checked. I am at just over the minimum specs recommended by Valve to run the Steam OS.

I copied an ISO of Ubuntu to a DVD disc and have it on a USB drive. I have tried both to install Ubuntu and it gets past the install selection and on to the "Where are you?" or one step past that to the User ID section and the computer restarts. I cannot even keep the computer on without restarting to get it installed.

I even tried going through the VERY SIMPLE steps of installing the Steam OS without Ubuntu and it won't even boot.

I am wondering if I have to format the Hard Drive or do something to it to get it ready to accept the programs. It had Linux on it but required a password that I did not know and when trying to install Ubuntu it seems to have erased the original Linux OS. I have a functioning Bios and S.M.A.R.T. says the HD is good.

I am stuck and need real advice not novice guesses please. Everything is up and running component wise. WIFI card, Nvidia Video card, i5 CPU and 6Gb RAM, etc.

Anyone?

Thanks for your help.
Mark

Okay all. I found out what the problem was. My son put way too much Thermal Paste on the CPU. Once I cleaned it off and wiped everything down with alcohol I added a fine layer of paste and it all installed just fine. The CPU had to have been overheating during the install and it would restart or freeze due to the potential temps at the time.
