My build is listed in my signature. I would just like to know at 1080p will these cards be good enough for high-ultra settings for another year? I play farcry 4 on max settings @ 1080p I usally am around 80fps with minor drops.

I hear all this talk about how 2GB is not enough and I would just like to know some facts.

If you don't have information that is proven please don't post here.

1080p MAX settings with high resolution textures on certain games can go well over the 2gb range on some games. You might need to turn down texures/anti-aliasing to run more demanding games.

The biggest hit to memory is resolution, then the in-game texture resolution settings, then stuff like Anti-Aliasing. Honestly you could probably get away with 1080p with mostly high settings using FXAA, and medium/high texture settings.

I would recommend a gtx 970 or a 780 (used if you have a smaller budget).

I wish I would have jumped on the 780's before they were gone, places around me were selling them new towards the end for 250-275, I feel for now with the games I play this setup should last, Side note I never plan to go about 1080p

sad that a 20 month old card setup is allready slowing down. sadly I think its better to stick with a console anymore due to price(it hurts me to say this), I can't afford for my personal rid to upgrade every year who can?

Not that I have anything against consoles, but that is crazy talk. The consoles can't play at 1080p. They certainly don't hit 60fps - that is, on any games with any graphical complexity. "Ultra" settings don't exist for consoles. It's great that a 3 generation old card (the 770=680) cannot max performance on every game. That means progress is actually being made in both games and cards. Your 770 kills current consoles in performance and graphical quality. When your 770 can't play a game at 900p 30fps medium settings then the consoles will be superior.

Technically the card is 1 genration old, yes I know its a better version of a 680, but the 8xx didnt come out for the desktops.

It's only expensive if your looking to completely max every game. Like Calculagator said, consoles run games at 720-900P, upscale it, and rarely run at 60 fps constant. Even when they claim to, digitalfoundry's benchmarks show they often drop in the low 40's, and can't maintain actual 60 fps. You can easily run any modern game with that card, its just some settings will have to be turned down.

Single generation old if you count current as maxwell and kepler as previous. Two generations if you count 980 as current, 780 as one generation, and 680 as two generations. Regardless, the exact chip of the the 770 (gk104) was released in March 2012. Hopefully my point still stands that the progress in both games and GPUs over the last almost three years is only a good thing.

Concerning GTA, which apparently does run at 1080p on both consoles (?), I hope my generalizations don't miss the mark. There are substantial sacrifices in quality and frame rate necessary to hit that resolution. Your GTX 770 will have much better performance. Consoles have a lot going for them regarding ease of use, quality controllers, and game selection, but if you switch, you get lower graphical quality.

A generation I thought was 6xx,7xx,9xx not by single card? Am I wrong here?

I'm really not trying to be confusing--sorry.
I consider the GTX 980 current gen; the GTX 780 is one generation old, the GTX 680 is two generations old. Since the GTX 770 is just a repackaged GTX 680, I consider it to be two generations old.
In my original post, I accidentally started counting at 1 instead of 0 and arrived at 3 generations old instead of 2.

Makes sense now, Thanks for the update. I actully upgraded from sli 680's to the 770s because of a good deal and the performance seems decent to me. I just wondered when 2gb will be a issues @1080p.
