i just bought new cpu
Phenom II X4 940 and new PSU(480W) along with it
i played few games like Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4 and today i played Dying Light
fraps showed over 25fps on every
but at some point games fps drops at 5-10 fps
and it happens every 2-3mins and it lasts for 4-5seconds
i first tought the cause of this was other components
i have 4gb ram
and HD6570 1gb gpu
but all other games run smoothly like fifa 14
no lag at all
then i saw few threads on net where is shown that new games consume more power and it leads to overheating with old coolers
and that makes game lag for sometime
i visited some stores and they said i should put new thermal paste
or change the cooler with copper headsink and wires

with my last cpu i exp some shutdowns and freezes before

so i tought
maybe someone can help me before i buy something wrong or similar mistake

and few more questions
should i lower the core voltage or change the power plan or something

help would be appreciated

:D

Solution
first of all, you need more ram, 8GB will be ideal, Now you def need a powerful GPU. Finally there is something way wrong with your CPU. for it to be at 70C on idle something is bad. try to get a better cooler and apply new thermal paste. idle should be less than 40C

By your name I'm guessing you're from bosnia, croatia or serbia (macedonia here :D) so you can find the Cooler Master EVO 212 easily and at a decent prize and it is a GREAT cooler (I just bought it. and will install it later. I had the same problem for over a month until literally 2 hours ago. Tell me if you have the new AMD Omega driver. Cuz that's what was causing all of the problems for me (Overheating to 65-70 while idle, getting BSOD, system freezes and a lot of other problems). After I reverted to the previous version, my PC purrs like a kitten :D. Temperatures back at 30 degrees, fps in games got better, no more freezing, no more system crashes.

i removed phenom
and put my old one back
now the program cpu termometar shows 2 cores and tells that one is 40c and other is 35c

before with quad core cpu that same program showed just one core
and told the temp is 70c

what program are you using to read those temps? download Core Temp and check again

make sure you installed the cooler correct, its not hard to install. which cooler you got "Im assuming the 212 EVO"

i wrote that i bought gamma archer deepcool cooler :D
and i think youre right about that i installed the cooler uncorrect :D
i forgot to remove old paste from cpu

by the way i did something
and i get 50c on idle now
up to 75-80 while gaming

install the cooler again with new thermal paste on both, cooler and CPU. still those idle temps are a bit high gotta be around 30's-40'sC.

I use Core Temp and HWMonitor to get all my readings as well as going into the BIOS and check on them too.
Now, you really want to see temps go down you need water cooling.

I think there is Bottlenecking that's why She idles over 70c.Clean your Computer,Check if all the Fans including the Case fans run Neat,Fast,Clean inside your PC from Dust(Using a Powerful Vaccum cleaner),Remove CPU Fan and for now get a Cooler Master Hyper 212X and a Nice Thermal Paste from eh....I don't know about them and Upgrade your GPU,RAM and finally check your PSU.That's all. Please inform me the change, after Doing these. If it idles more than 45c,You need a new PSU and a Water cooling Block too.

OT- Also check your OS for Viruses as they can also be a cause for CPU Overheating.
