Hello everyone,

Recently I bought a Manhattan 2-Port Mini KVM Switch, 2-Port USB, Audio Support, Model Number: 151245, to connect two computer machines and switch display between the two pcs. However I noticed that there is no switch located on the KVM board even though the manual says that one needs to tap on the control key.

Do I have to use a hot-key from the keyboard or is there something that I am missing ??

Solution
No, the hot-key is built into the KVM switch. While some switches will allow you to change the hot-key, your KVM will come pre-programmed with a specific hot-key or key sequence you type to switch from one computer to the next. You need to know what the hot-key is, then type it into the keyboard. The KVM will intercept the hot-key and perform the switch when you type it correctly.
That KVM switch does not have a physical switch for choosing between the connected computers. It uses hot-key selection, which would take place via your attached keyboard.

Unfortunately, I see no manual with the actual instructions for what the hot-key or combination of keys is on their site. An oversight on their part?

From my experience, KVM switches usually use a double-press of the Scroll Lock button on the keyboard as the hot-key to switch between attached consoles. Some KVM switches will then switch immediately, while others require a press of the Enter key to then switch. In some KVM switches, the double-press of the Scroll Lock key may be followed by a console number, for example 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the case of a 4 console KVM switch, and can also be followed by a specific or multiple features you want to switch, such as K for keyboard, V for video, M for mouse, and S for sound, U for USB, and finally followed with the Enter key to confirm selection. I would recommend trying this, or a combination of this, or seeing if you have more documentation with the device than what is provided on their website.

Being a simple, integrated KVM switch, I wouldn't expect to be able to switch the individual portions separately.
