Mixed RAM Frequencies

Hey guys,

I just wanted a quick question answered.

So i'm looking into purchasing a socket 1150 motherboard with the devil's canyon i5 4670k or i7 but on the motherboard can I use my old 1600MHz Corsair Ballistix Sport RAM (9-9-9-24) with the 1800MHz Corsair Vengeance? since it comes within a bundle.

strongly advised against it, you would have to run it at the lower speeds and it is not worth any potential risks it could pose to the system

RAM operates at the slower of the available maximum speeds supported. so in the case you've mentioned, the speed of the Corsair Bllistix would be the speed selected for the other RAM.

I would advise you try it. The worst that can happen is that your system would not boot until you removed the incompatible RAM. Most likely it will just down clock to match speeds. If it works (95% chance I would guess) then you get more RAM.

Give them a try, if they will play together at default chances are you might be able to get them all to run at 1866
