Hi,

First of all: I am asking in general about whether installing Motherboard chipest driver is valuable or not, and not asking about Navidia deriver, nor installing motherbaord chipest deriver on this old computer of mine:

The specs of my computer are: Desktop Computer(Intel P 3, 256 MB of RAM, and Nvidia Graphics Card with 128MB of RAM

My windows is Windows XP SP1(32Bit).
These are Nvidai Display derivers:
175.19- http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/5753/en-us

175.16 - http://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/5130/en-uk

169.21 - http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/3261/en-us

163.75 - http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/1982/en-us

93.71 - http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/5/en-us

I was having a problem finding a suitable driver of my Nvidia Graphics Card, although all derivers was downloaded from the Nvidia website. Whenever installing a latest driver, of the Nvidia display , then rebooted my computer. Once my computer started again, I faced a popup message telling me 'my computre's screen resolultion, and colour depth are set to a very low level(4 bit).' Even I couldn't increase them at all since they are not avilable .

when clicking a right click on a blank area of my desktop and in the pop-up menu click "Properties"
- in the "Display Properties" window which appears, click the "Settings" tab
- report the value shown in the "Color Quality" box. I see it does not say it is using 32-bit color then that is the point of installing the graphics driver.
And I found this error below once clicking on 'settings tabe'
The currently selected graphics driver can not be used. It was written for a pervious version of windows, and it is no longer compatible with this version of windows. The system has been started using the default VGA driver'

As a result, I was told :Normally, motherboard chipset drivers are installed first, before other drivers. Even when there are no exclamation marks in Device Manager. This could be why the graphics driver has not installed properly.

- uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot.
- install the via 4-in-1 driver linked to above and reboot
- install the nvidia driver once more and reboot.
.

So, I uinsalled the nvidia driver and reboot, and have installed motherboard_driver_chipset_via_4in1433v
http://download1.gigabyte.asia/Files/Driver/motherboard_driver_chipset_via_4in1433v.exe
But, I didn't see any new entires or updates added in the device manager at all.

Then, I reinstaled the Nvidia drivers V 175.16, and 175.19. However, However, 175.16, and 175.19 didn't define well my Nvidia Graphics card, although I installing the motherboard chipest deriver. What solved my problem is NOT installing motherboard chiest driver. However, what solved my problem is installing an earlier Nvidai deriver, which is 93.71 -http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/5/en-us

Thus, my questions are:
First: Should I install motherboard chipset drivers even if I don't find any new entries in the device manager after installing motherboard chipset driver?
Finally: IS it normal any installation of motherboard chipset driver doesn't make any changes noticeable in the device manager

With my experience... I've found that some older motherboards don't like updated drivers installed... sometimes you have to just stick with the original ones. I remember working on this older computer I was going to give away to some kids... I installed a newer version of the driver... and even though it said was compatible... I had serious artifacts all over the screen... so I just stuck with the original driver.

Thank you all of you very much indeed,
No one replied to my questions at all. I really ask in general about installing motherboard chipset driver in modern or ancient PCs. Laptop, desktop. I really when installed motherboard chipset on a desktop P 3, I didn't notice any changes in the device manager at all.
