I have a Samsung NP350V5C-A01US laptop, running Win8.1 (64-bit) with 6GB RAM. Samsung's site says the RAM capacity is 8GB. But Micron's tech rep tells me my laptop will accommodate two of their 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 RAM cards. I tried contacting Samsung, but the agent I spoke with was obviously just reading from the specs I read and seemed unable to explain why the system's limit is 8GB. Is there some other way I can tell who is right on this question? Thanks.

it depends on the board. but with a laptop i am not sure how easy it is to find any info about it (unlike for desktops). The guy might just be reading on the specs. but remember, in the site it states 8gb max so if going 16 does not work, well, you get the point.

but just to throw it out there, what do you use the laptop for? for everyday use, 8gb is good enough. 16gb, it depends on what you do.

Have you checked with Samsung? Many places will quote from the laptop manufactures specs, other places will quote from the chipset limitations (apparently not caring if the manufacture has limited the DRAM capabilities or hasn't provided for the max in their BIOS setup

Thank you all for the replies. As noted, I did check with Samsung after contacting Micron and chatted with one of their reps. As for use, 6GB is plenty of RAM for most things I do. But I have and frequently use Logos Bible software, which has a fully searchable library of more than 4,000 books, and the searches can be very resource intensive. I don't know if this helps any, but my user manual says the chipset in my laptop is "Intel HM70/HM76." I take it that means I have either the HM70 or HM76 chipset; not sure which. And my BIOS version is "American Megatrends Inc. P09ABE" dated 7/4/2013.

Crucial's memory compatibility feature was the first thing I checked after looking at Samsung's specs for RAM capacity. That's what led me to think maybe my laptop could handle more than 8GB. Hence I chatted with a Micron agent who told me it could take 16GB. To be safe, I thought I'd confirm that with someone at Samsung. I figured the info on Samsung's web site could very well be dated. But, to be honest, the Samsung agent I chatted with didn't seem very knowledgeable and couldn't explain to me why the RAM capacity would be limited to 8GB. He even said that installing more than 8GB could damage the computer, which I thought was strange.
