I want to get a new SSD and a new HDD.
I've been thinking about getting a Samsung 850 evo 250GB, and Newegg has a $15 code.
I also saw a Seagate barracuda 3TB (ST3000DM001) for $100, with a $12 of promo, and was wanting to check with Tom's hardware before I went and bought these parts, along with the rest of my cart.

All items need to be on Newegg, so I can use Paypal Credit, and have 6 months of no interest.
Unfortunately these prices are only good for today, so I need to act fast!

I saw that before, turns out the study was done wrong -- too many variables, so it has been discredited.
I've also had a seagate drive that has at least been in use since 2009

They talked about it on the WAN show in depth.
I updated the last post with, "I've also had a seagate drive that has at least been in use since 2009"

I'm fully comfortable with flashing firmware, as I have done this several times with graphics cards.

Nope, that's why I came here.
I have one place claiming the sky is falling on Seagate, then saying that they're okay, Linus saying that the testing is BS, everyone else recommending people get what they can afford, and I can't afford the Western digital black -- maybe green, but not black.

Data loss is an inconvenience I'd prefer to avoid, but these drives will have nothing that is not replaceable with a quick reinstall of steam. All of the data going to these drives are from a 6+ year old Seagate 500GB drive that has been warning of pending sector count, but has otherwise been fine. Specifically, it has 44,367 power on hours -- or 5.06 years.

I just need to know if there's any significant concern that this drive will die -- also, I'd prefer not to have a drive that is extremely loud. I had someone else get a Western Digital since they could afford it, and it sounded like death, but turns out is typically very loud when searching for files -- runs fine and has no warnings.

I can't afford a WD black, so Seagate it is for me; thank you for your time.

Also, this site said this, "Backblaze also notes that some drives (the Western Digital Green 3TB and Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB) start producing errors as soon as they’re slotted into a storage pod. They think this is due to the large amounts of vibration caused by thousands of other hard drives. (They also think that their aggressive spin-down setting, which is ostensibly to save power, causes a lot of wear to the drive.)"

I get the fleeing they have them turn on and off on a dime, and run way too many.
I'm sure that if a seagate can last 3 years in that environment, it can last many more in my computer that never gets bumped and only has one other hard drive in it.

Oh, here's a link: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/02/17/backblaze_how_not_to_evaluate_disk_reliability/

Okay, the thread can be closed: I'm either getting the Seagate or no hdd; thank you for the help.

Edit: Newegg was saying I needed $250 order for Paypal credit to give me six months without paying, and Paypal said $100, so I dropped the hard drive, as I mostly added it to get me more time to pay.
