I recently installed a 500w Antec only to find out that it doesnt provide enough power for my graphics card. So i have picked a slightly better psu and was wondering if this could power my gpu. (want to be sure this time) and the rest of my pc obviously.

psu: Corsair VS650 ATX Power Supply

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=22271

Specs:
case: Cosiar Carbide 300R
gpu: Sapphire HD7950 Vapor-X Boost
cpu: Intel core i7 4770
HDD: 1tb Seagate 7200rpm
Mobo: ASRock Fatal1ty H97 Performance
Windows 7 64bit
2x8gb Ram

Or would it be a better idea to get a 750w?

There might actually be a problem with my graphics card after all. Going to test it in another pc. I have read that it is the minimum for it to be 500w and this 500w psu could possibly have 430w +80 or somewhere around those lines which might cause problems. I am so confused
Antec Basiq VP-500P 500W Power Supply
Thanks for all the help

80 Plus is only a measure of efficiency. An 80 Plus Titanium ( good as it gets ) 500w power supply is still that...a 500w power supply. The difference between it and say an 80 Plus Bronze unit is how much power is pulled from the wall socket to make that 500 watts. The higher the efficiency the less power is wasted.

So an 80 Plus 500w power supply being 80% efficient pulls 625 watts from the wall and wastes 125 watts mostly as heat. An 80 Plus Platinum unit being 90% ( for ease of math ;) ) efficient only has to pull 555.5 watts from the wall to produce the same 500 watt output.

Generally the higher the efficiency the higher quality the parts but there are some real stinkers in the 80 Plus Gold range and not all units can meet their rating. That goes for efficiency as well as output. So you really have to go by reviews to tell if a units decent or not.

Antec is one of the few brands I recommend by name. Corsair used to be on that short list but not anymore. Their lower end units are probably not going to kill your computer but there are almost always better units from other brands in the same price range.
