Hi guys,

I recently got a new computer, a Dell XPS 8700 with the following specs:

Intel Core i7-4770 Quad-Core Haswell up to 3.9 GHz
32GB Memory
4TB 7200RPM HDD
Radeon HD 7570 1GB
Windows 8

Since this was a fairly pricey computer I thought it was going to run games smoothly with high graphic settings. Turns out I should probably have double checked that the graphic card was any good. I can't run any games in decent settings and the FPS is really low.

So I'm thinking I'll need to change the graphic card. Here comes my question: How do I make sure I get a graphics card that'll work great with my computer? I would like to get a high quality card, does anyone have any recommendations of graphic cards they know will work with this type of computer?

Looking forward to your answers.
Thanks!

Lol right, hum while I don't entirely suggest a gtx 980, I guess you can take it, but I'd rather use something like a gtx 970 for your build, since them 970 is in the sweet spot for price to performance in the market now. But If ur willing to pay for the 980, then take it, it's the strongest single gpu out, but, I digress,

Thank you for the recommendation! So by the sound of it I wont feel that big of a difference getting the 980 over the 970?

Also upgrading my graphics card would be enough to run games smoothly on high settings? Or would I need to upgrade other parts of the computer as well?

Sorry I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this.

MSI GTX 970 / Gigabyte
MSI R9 290X

Both of them cost around 500 USD

Im not recommending GTX 980 since its too pricey

Btw whats ur powersupply? Since 290X uses more Watt then 970 and it had more bit..

well u can play smoothly with these graphcard.. What did you play anyway? Your RAM IS WAY TOO BIG btw lol u didn't do overclock right? those RAM budget can go to graphcard :p..

also whats ur monitor, since Great Graphcard but bad monitor also effects the performance

11sphrere92, thanks for the suggestions! I'm actually not sure what my powersupply is! I'll need to look up how to find that.

Well I tried out the new game called H1Z1, and I have to turn it down to the lowest resolution just to kind of being able to play it, same goes for games like FIFA15 and CS:GO :| Didn't do any overclock, just bought the computer as is over Amazon haha.

The monitor is called Dell S2440L 24' -- hopefully that should be okay?

Lol seriously? i also played h1z1 yesterday with GTX 970 yet it freeze (My other friend using these has no problems at all) what server r u in? link up ur steam prof mate, maybe we can play tgt..

Also ur Monitor is already awesome also with IPS Panel which good at the picture..

If you only play fifa 15, cs go, H1Z1, and others nearly like that.. Single GTX 970 would be good..
But if you planning to get some Fancy 4k Monitor or ROG, i should suggest u to get single GTX 980 Rather than SLI (Dual) Graphic GTX 970

Also would love to know ur PSU, since its effect ur GPU..

Oh really! I looked up the gtx 970 and found http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-working-on-driver-update-to-address-gtx-970-issues/ maybe that could be related to the freeze you're experiencing? My steam name should be sebrosen, though I won't be able to play before I get that new graphics card haha.

Sounds like I should go with the GTX 970! Though I wouldn't mind spending extra for the 980.
So I looked up how to find my PSU and I believe I'll need to open up my computer case to check it?

edit: after reading some reviews of the computer it seems like it comes with a 460-watt power supply -- doesn't sound too impressive?

okk, if you dont mind i will add u up, my ign CrumblingCaliburn.
Anyway thanks, gosh i hope its because of NVIDIA. I was afraid it was other parts of my rig's.

Yes i think you need to open up computer case, but with ur spec i believe maybe ur powersupply is around 750watt and wont reach 1000watt..

Well, yes GTX 970 is awesome, also not recommending ASUS (They sound so loud when play games) had a problem with the CU Cooling system. (My friend own a computer hardware shop, a lot of complain about ASUS)

If you got extra budget, recommending to get SSD 64/32GB would be enough (For windows only) so it load windows faster like less than a minutes..
